Hereditary Angioedema (HAE)

Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) is a rare genetic condition that causes episodes of swelling in different parts of the body, including:

  • Hands and feet
  • Face and lips
  • Abdomen (stomach area)
  • Throat (airway)

These episodes, also called attacks, can occur suddenly and vary in severity. Untreated attacks may last several days and can disrupt daily life.

HAE is caused by a deficiency or dysfunction of a protein called C1 esterase inhibitor (C1-INH), which helps regulate inflammation in the body.

HAE is not an allergic reaction. Common allergy medications such as antihistamines, corticosteroids, and epinephrine are not effective for treating HAE attacks.

How HAE Can Affect the Body

Types of HAE Therapy

Preventive (Prophylaxis) Therapy

Taken regularly to help reduce how often attacks happen

Supports long-term control of the condition

On-Demand (Rescue) Therapy

Used at the first sign of an attack Helps reduce symptoms and shorten duration

Your provider will help determine the most appropriate treatment options based on your condition, lifestyle, and clinical needs.

HAE Care We Support

At Pharma Fusion RX, we work closely with patients and providers to support safe, consistent HAE therapy, helping simplify treatment and improve the overall care experience.

We coordinate closely with your provider to support safe, consistent therapy for:
  • Hereditary Angioedema (Type I & II) HAE with normal C1-INH
  • Patients requiring prophylaxis and/or rescue therapy
  • Individuals needing ongoing monitoring and therapy coordination
Why Early Treatment Matters

Treating an HAE attack early can help:

  • Reduce severity and duration
  • Improve outcomes
  • Minimize disruptions to daily life

Patients are encouraged to always have access to on-demand medication and a plan to treat attacks at the first sign of symptoms.

Emergency Preparedness

We help maintain personalized treatment plans and support continuity of care during travel or unexpected interruptions.

Patients should be prepared to act quickly, especially for attacks involving the throat.

Swelling involving the throat may be life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.
